Here are five of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. Santa Ana winds will gust through the San Diego region from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory at the coast for winds with gusts up to 45 mph. Inland regions will experience wind gusts of up to 70 mph. The warm air and breezes may increase the threat of wildfires. Be prepared. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Roads will be busy with Thanksgiving Day travelers today, so you'll need to exercise patience when driving. U.S. Customs and Border Protection suggests that travelers should anticipate delays through border crossings. Commuters on the Mexican side need to show travel documents before they arrive at the U.S. Port of Entry. Bring your passport when crossing the border and go to the "Ready" line for quicker entry. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  3. If your holiday plans take you through La Mesa today, you might want to stop at the Lake Murray Chevron at 5600 Baltimore Drive. That station owner is offering discounted prices through the Thanksgiving holiday. For a limited time, 87 Octane gasoline will be available for $3.99 per gallon cash, or $4.19 by credit card. The discount will be available from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  4. Looking for a last-minute plan for your Thanksgiving dinner? You might consider dining at a local San Diego area restaurant. Looking for something simpler? Why not just order in? Many restaurants will prepare your meal, and you can just pick it up when it's ready. Sound good? Check out this link for further details. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  5. Want to do something fun today, or over the holiday weekend? The good news: there are plenty of activities scheduled right here in San Diego. Today, you can visit a Winter Wonder at Belmont Park, or enjoy a Jazz Fest, or participate in the O’side Turkey Trot, or enjoy Thanksgiving Day on Mission Bay. See the events available to visit today, on Friday, or on Saturday and Sunday. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)

From my notebook:

  • SDPD turkey dinners for families: "This past weekend, SDPD’s Gang Intervention Unit handed out turkey dinners to families they work with, including some of our local military families. Special thanks to all the organizations and volunteers who donated food and their time to help make these families holidays a special one." (San Diego Police Department via Facebook)
  • Don't pour it down the drain! "Don't let your holiday festivities turn into an expensive mess! (City of San Diego via Facebook)
  • Korean kimchi: "Happy #kimchiday! 🥬 🌶 ❤️ This healthy, pickled and fermented veggie is a workhorse in korean cooking. Not just a condiment, it’s a dish that stands on its own, can be made into stews and is made to last!" (San Diego Central Library via Facebook)
  • Favorite holiday flower: "Get in the holiday spirit at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park! Discover San Diego’s connection to the Poinsettia - the world’s favorite holiday flower in a 15' display featuring more than 400 live plants. #balboapark #sdhistory" (San Diego History Center via Facebook)
