- Bonfire Beach Traditions may soon be limited. The environmental committee is researching the health and safety issues resulting from fire pits and bonfires. "It's deadly! It’s worse than sitting behind a diesel truck. I mean it causes huge health repercussions," resident Cathy Ives of Mission Beach commented. The San Diego City Council will soon decide on the matter. - It doesn’t really fit: A potential 7-story apartment complex in a 2-story neighborhood in Normal Heights. “I wouldn't want a three-story apartment building next to my house, could you imagine 7-stories,” said Jim Vross, who lives in the area and is part of the community planning group. Residents of the area are not happy. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
- The San Diego Jazz Ventures presents women in jazz. The event will take place on June 3 and 4 at The Alexandria, featuring all-star sextet, Artemis, and Grammy-nominee, Thana Alexa. Artemis is a modern jazz group comprised of women. “Each member of ARTEMIS is a unique character which is what a band needs — versatility,” said Cohen. “That’s what makes life interesting and that’s what makes music fascinating — the personalities.” Thana Alexa is a Croatian American jazz vocalist, composer, arranger, and producer.
