Here are three of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. Is it controversial? Yes! But it may be just the thing we need to improve air quality and our overall quality of life here in San Diego. This climate action plan, which aims for net zero emissions, was proposed back in November 2021. Since that time, more than 4,000 residents have given their feedback. Now the plan has been approved. “This climate action plan will bring about profound benefits for San Diegans. I think often we talk about the trade-off and the challenges that have to be done, but let’s be clear about what this will do -- cleaner air, cleaner water, improve public health, more safe and convenient mobility options,” Mayor Todd Gloria said. Some believe that the lofty goals will not be reached. Others are just glad that the City of San Diego is doing something to try and get there. 2. Students at Poway’s Del Norte High School hosted a shoe distribution event in conjunction with San Diego Serving Seniors, a nonprofit group supporting low-income seniors. “'Soles in Need' was created by two Del Norte High School students, myself, and my best friend Collin Schwarz, as we both share a love of shoes and wanted to do something impactful for the San Diego community. So, we decided to combine the two and create Soles in Need at Del Norte High School,” said Arie Ibarrola, one of the groups founders. Their website is at servingseniors.org/. 3. It is just SO CUTE! It was born at the San Diego Zoo this summer to mother, Xena. This Linné's two-toed sloth is clinging to mom, nursing, and thriving in this world. "We are thrilled and honored to have this baby sloth in our care," said Clint Lusardi, the zoo's wildlife care manager. "Xena is taking excellent care of her baby as it continues to grow and thrive every day," Lusardi added. "Our team of wildlife care specialists have been interacting with Xena and the baby from day one, and we are proud to slowly start introducing the little one to our guests, giving them the chance to learn about this amazing species." The baby and her mom will live at the Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp, which opened earlier this year. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
