- Activists and demonstrators gathered at the San Diego Waterfront Park to demand justice in the brutal police killing of Tyre Nichols. Joined in pain, demonstrators asked for legislation to root out the cancer that exists within the police department. San Diego Police Chief, David Nisleit stated: “We – inclusive of our entire San Diego Police Department – condemn this betrayal of the badge and the public trust, and we support the firing and prosecution of the officers involved.” (CBS 8 News)
- The city’s largest Lunar New Year celebration, Tet, taking place this weekend in Mira Mesa, is an opportunity for the Vietnamese community to share its cultural celebration with area residents. Despite the tragedy experienced by the Asian community last weekend in the Monterey Park area, celebrants have no hesitation in enjoying the music, performances, carnival rides, and delectable foods. It is the Year of the Cat, and it represents hope and peace. The Tet celebration will continue through today. Police will be monitoring the event. Come out and enjoy! (NBC San Diego)
- Goldman Sachs, a leading asset management company, proclaimed that the San Diego housing market tops its Crash Candidate List. The company believes that San Diego will experience a significant 2008-style crash. Rising interest rates instituted to curb inflation are blamed for the drop in property values. (San Diego Patch)
- A Przewalski horse foal was born recently at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The horse had been categorized as Extinct in the Wild prior to 1996. The birth of over 157 Przewalski’s has been celebrated at the zoo and safari park. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance explained that the Przewalski horse has survived almost entirely at zoos around the world. The species is considered important for genetic diversity.
