Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. They are frontline heroes. For two years, medical professionals around San Diego have put their lives on hold to take care of persons infected with COVID-19. On Thursday, residents came out to thank health care workers for their care and compassion during the pandemic. In addition, the City of San Diego proclaimed March 2022 Health Care Workers Month at a ceremony in Balboa Park. It was a great day to give back to health care workers for their dedication and professionalism. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
  2. The City Council grilled San Diego’s new ambulance company, Falck, about its performance over the past few months. The fire department plans to pursue financial penalties against Falck for regularly understaffing ambulances. Falck won the City contract last year, promising higher staffing and new lifesaving equipment. Falck said that employees were out of work due to the uptick in COVID-19. The company has come through with other contract obligations such as new ambulances, power-loading gurneys, equipment that does automatic chest compressions. Falck must meet its staffing obligations as well. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (KPBS)
  3. San Diego County is hiring temporary election workers needed for the June 7 gubernatorial primary. Election workers will be paid up to $20 per hour, depending on the job. Staff is needed to manage the operations of ballot drop box locations. Site managers are also needed for vote centers around San Diego. Ballot drop box locations will remain open for almost one month. Voting centers will remain open for 11 days. Requirements: be a team player, be professional, be nonpartisan, exhibit strong leadership skills and customer service skills, be flexible, be patient, and possess a high level of integrity. If you can speak a foreign language, be sure to state it when you apply. Personal protective equipment will be provided to ensure safety. Apply online today!
