  1. Sure it's paradise, but at what price? The median home price here in San Diego is now over $905,000. It means that today's home shopper needs to earn more than $166K per year to be able to buy a home here. “Not a lot of people are going to be in that category, even if they have two incomes in their households,” said University of San Diego Economics Professor, Alan Gin. The median household income in San Diego is $83,000, which is less than half of what is needed to buy a house. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (CBS News 8)
  2. How to attract more teachers — that is the question. School districts across the nation are experiencing a shortage of teachers, and San Diego school districts are no exception. In Alpine, teachers have just been given a 6 percent salary increase, along with increased health coverage, and childcare centers. The district has even hired teachers from abroad. 3. It is a record-setting gift from Staples Foundation. The Escondido Arts Center has received $1 million to help promote the arts in North San Diego County. "The challenges our artistic communities faced over the past few years have made it more important than ever to ensure the future of arts programming," said Sara Matta, center foundation chair who also serves as the chair of the CCAE Board of Trustees. "We are grateful that the Staples Foundation chose to honor Dorris' legacy by ensuring that CCAE will continue to fulfill its mission of bringing people together to discover, create, and celebrate the visual and performing arts." The gift will provide classes and hands-on experiences to arts professionals, regardless of their socioeconomic status. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
