- The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA) float was a winner in the 134th Rose Parade this week. The float featured both rhinos and giraffes, and was honored with the Animation Award. The rhinos aboard the float could turn their heads toward the spectators, while the giraffes bent their heads down for a drink of fresh water from the waterfall. The float animals depicted live giraffes and rhinos at the Safari Park. (NBC 7 San Diego)
- This year’s San Diego Auto Show brought hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) to the San Diego Convention Center. The recent high cost of gas has raised interest in EVs. Yet not everyone is comfortable with all-electric vehicles. Electric car owners caution that some EVs won't travel all the miles they claim to. On the other hand, hybrids are popular since they can accommodate both types of power. (KPBS)
- In recent years, residents, as well as their planning group, have agreed that Bay Park deserved signage. However, the City of San Diego said that Bay Park was not a community, but only a neighborhood. Bay Park residents pointed out that Bay Park has a history dating back to 1877, while nearby Clairemont was not developed until the 1950s. The city suggested that Bay Park should request a traditional sign, rather than a non-standard one. When it was pointed out to the city that a traditional sign had been requested, the sign was quickly approved. (San Diego Reader)
- With New Year’s goals declared, residents are hitting the gym to get in shape. According to Statista, 52 percent of new year’s resolutions in 2023 included exercise. Local gyms have seen an increase in gym attendance and are encouraging attendees to keep consistent and pace themselves. Starting with a personal training session is a great way to learn how to achieve goals. So, stay with it — You can do it in 2023! (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
