Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

Only an animal needs a tusk!
  1. On Mar. 3, celebrate World Wildlife Day with San Diego Zoo Safari Park for the Toss the Tusk event. Bring you items to the Safari Park's main entrance — admission is not necessary to participate. Contribute any ivory or other wildlife products (no questions asked) to reduce demand for these products and to bring hope to endangered species in a future world free of wildlife trafficking. Learn more at SDZWA.Org/tossthetusk. (SD Zoo Wildlife Alliance)
  2. Ever thought of having a memorial service for the living? Students at La Jolla Country Day School recently joined in to launch a live campaign of Say It Now to express gratitude to important people in their lives. Keynote speaker Martin Luther King III was on hand to urge people to say it now, rather than at a memorial service. It's a great idea: celebrate someone special to you, your parents, grandparents, teachers, or mentors, today. Don't wait! (Del Mar Times)
  3. Rain – it’s been hitting us hard! With gusty winds, floods, and even snow in the mountains, the weather has been cold, wet, and atypical for our area. Snow totals have been up to 25 inches in Mount Laguna. Rain totals varied with up to 2.20 inches in coastal areas, 2.45 inches in the valleys, 2.51 inches in the mountains, and 1.03 inches in the deserts. It’s expected that more inclement weather will be with us this week. (NBC San Diego)
