SDG&E Partners With Synergy For New Energy Efficiency Upgrade Program
The new program can help homeowners rein in the rising cost of electricity while helping them to become energy efficient.
SAN DIEGO — San Diego Gas & Electric announced it's new energy efficiency upgrade program for renters and owners of single-family homes intended to help keep energy costs down. The new program, in partnership with Synergy Companies, which will assist in administering the program, could help homeowners rein in the rising cost of electricity SDG&E said today.
The Residential Energy Solutions program allows participating customers to receive free products, such as smart thermostats and HVAC services such as air duct testing and sealing. The program has no income restrictions, according to the program website.
The goal of the program, according to the website, is to help homeowners start their Zero Net Energy "journey" with no cost energy efficiency products and services by transitioning them to "higher levels of energy efficiency and renewable technologies that can potentially be financed.

A zero net energy building is one in which the amount of energy consumed is less than or the same as the renewable energy generated.
"Not only can energy efficiency upgrades help our customers save long term on their energy bills and make their homes more comfortable," SDG&E Vice President of Customer Services Dana Golan told City News Service. "Additionally, reducing energy use can help our region and our state cut greenhouse gas emissions and meet our climate goals."

The program also allows homeowners to participate in demand response events to further help the grid and the environment and to increase efficiency of resources to prevent power outages.
Products and services offered include smart thermostats which are able to be controlled remotely, high-efficiency, brushless fan motor, efficient fan controls and duct test and seal and low-flow faucet aerators, low-flow showerheads, pipe wraps and thermostat shower valves.
