Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. Earlier this year, SDG&E’s residential natural gas customers received $43.06 in credits. Now, customers will receive $64.17 in electric bill credits. Coming in August and September, these credits are administered by the California Public Utilities Commission as part of the state's attempt to fight climate change. In addition to residential customers, eligible small businesses will also get the credits on their electric bills. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Times of San Diego)
  2. Higher interest rates have resulted in reduced home prices in San Diego according to the California Association of Realtors. Statewide median home prices dropped 4 percent in June. "With interest rates moving sideways in recent weeks, and fewer homes now selling above listing price, prospective buyers have the rare opportunity to see more listings coming onto the market and face less competition that could force them to engage in a bidding war,” said CAR President Otto Catrina, a Bay Area real estate broker, on Monday. The cost of expensive homes priced $2 million and up fell 17.9 percent. Interest rates are expected to climb further in the coming months. This would reduce home prices even further. 3. The City Council will need to vote again to pass regulations governing the city’s use of surveillance technology. However, many residents oppose the regulations, including an exemption for police officers on federal task forces. Some residents expressed concerns about possible violations of civil liberties. The ordinance is meant to increase transparency and oversight of surveillance technology that is used by the city. The San Diego City Council would need to reconsider the use of technology on a yearly basis. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Del Mar Times)
