SeaWorld San Diego Opens 'One-Of-A-Kind' Jellyfish Experience
Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience is the largest standalone jellyfish exhibit in the country, according to the theme park.
SAN DIEGO, CA — SeaWorld San Diego's much-anticipated new jellyfish exhibit is now open to the public.
Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience is the first-of-its-kind attraction at SeaWorld Parks and the largest standalone jellyfish exhibit in the country, according to the theme park. The park's newest immersive and interactive attraction, which was originally slated to open last year, showcases a variety of jellyfish species.
"We're thrilled to introduce Jewels of the Sea, a one-of-a-kind experience where guests can witness the breathtaking beauty of jellyfish like never before," said Tyler Carter, park president of SeaWorld San Diego. "This exhibit not only celebrates these captivating creatures but also highlights their critical role in ocean ecosystems."

The exhibit features three separate galleries with several species of jellyfish, including moon, pacific sea nettles and upside-down jellyfish. Highlights include one of the largest jellyfish cylinders in the country, a cascading water globe filled with jellyfish, and a fully interactive LED gallery that brings the wonders of the ocean to life.
The multi-gallery exhibit opens with "Realm of Jellies: A Story of Water and Light," featuring interactive habitats that allow visitors to get up close to the creatures. The "Jellyfish Passage" has a 10-foot-tall living archway of moon jellies and a 14-foot-tall jellyfish aquarium, which is one of the tallest jellyfish aquariums in the U.S., according to the theme park. The "Medusa Gallery" features LED visuals that transform the space into a 360-degree experience.

In conjunction with the exhibit's grand opening, SeaWorld partnered with Washed Ashore, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ocean conservation to present a new art installation.
Located just outside Jewels of the Sea, the life-sized lion's mane jellyfish sculpture, made entirely from up-cycled marine debris, serves as a reminder of the impact of plastic pollution on marine life.
"Lion's mane jellies are the largest of jellyfish in the world, but their size can't prevent them from the impacts of ocean plastic pollution," Brad Parks, Washed Ashore's conservation education director, said in a statement. "Sea creatures of all sizes are being harmed when they mistake microplastics for food or become entangled in this marine debris. We hope this sculpture and all the amazing animals at SeaWorld San Diego inspire every guest to do just one thing to help reduce plastic consumption and pollution, protecting wild places and the wildlife that depends on clean oceans to survive."
