  1. Beaches in Del Mar remain closed. On Friday, a woman was attacked by a shark as she and her friend swam back from a long-distance swim. She was treated for puncture wounds to her thigh, was stitched, and is now recovering. Lifeguards closed the beach near the 17th Street Lifeguard Tower in Del Mar. The area will remain closed for 48 hours as part of the city’s shark bite protocol. (NBC San Diego)
  2. There are now 218 open vote centers throughout San Diego. The centers will remain open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Monday. On Tuesday, Election Day, the voting hours will change to 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Voters can register, vote in person, or drop off their mail ballots at any vote center throughout San Diego.   3. This month is National Native American Heritage Month, and San Diego will join the celebration. The first inhabitants of San Diego included tribes such as the Luiseno, the Chuilla, and the Cupeno, as well as the Kumeyaay, who lived here for ten thousand years. UCSD, NOAA Fisheries, among others will celebrate the occasion with special events. The San Diego American Indian Health Center's Pow Wow will showcase of Native American culture and traditions.   4. Did you know that 40 percent of food produced is wasted? It’s a startling figure but there are ways to make minor changes that will reduce waste. The Solana Center and the City of San Diego have joined together to bring you information on related topics. Learn from the experts, reduce food waste, grow a better garden, help the environment.
