Here are four of the top stories in San Diego today:
- They sacrifice their holidays. They put their families on hold. They sleep in ditches? Yes, they do! They are the👩🚒firefighters of San Diego County. “With the higher temperatures and the increased winds, obviously, it is a little bit more danger for wildfires.” Deputy Chief Gordon said. “We decided to pre-deploy or preposition strike teams, so we have a strike team with five apparatus and about 20 personnel here in El Cajon prepositioned, and we also have one in San Marcos.” Let’s hope this extreme heat and fire danger ends soon! - “I think that I will never see a poem as lovely as a tree.” You might remember the poem from grammar school. Joyce Kilmer words speak true even today. Our🌳trees are a beautiful part of our landscape — and they must be watered, especially in this extreme heat we are experiencing here in San Diego. While turf grass watering is restricted, the watering of trees on residential and commercial properties is not. Trees are important to our landscape. They provide shade and they remove carbon dioxide that fuels global warming. Watering trees as efficiently as possible is important. Trees need a deep soaking early in the morning to minimize evaporation. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Times of San Diego)
- COVID-19🦠cases have declined, but the virus is still here. So, you might consider getting the latest booster shot, especially if you are elderly or if you are immunocompromised. The new boosters target multiple strains of the virus. They generate an immune response from COVID-19, BA.4, and BA.5 omicron subvariants. San Diego County expects to receive the newest COVID-19 boosters next week. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
- It lurks right next to Interstate 5! It has been seen on the side of a building in Barrio Logan. Did it escape from the San Diego Zoo? No! Have you seen it? The giant🐆jaguar is part of a mural recently painted by the artists of Ground Floor Murals. This mural and others can be seen around San Diego. Take a look at the photos. - San Diego Humane Society: "The long weekend is bringing long, hot☀️days, which can be very difficult for our pets! Help keep them safe by watching for signs of heat stress, including heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, vomiting, or a deep red tongue. Contact your vet right away if you believe your pet has heat exhaustion." (San Diego Humane Society via Facebook)
- San Diego Humane Society: "Senior bobcat🐆Kruger and Wildlife Care Specialist Stacey share a special bond — one that spans more than two decades!
