Some San Diego County Schools Closed Due To High Winds, Power Outages

SAN DIEGO, CA — Some San Diego area schools are closed Wednesday amid critical fire weather conditions.

The San Diego County Office of Education announced that schools in Mountain Empire Unified School District are closed due to high winds and potential power outages. Lakeside Farms Elementary and DREAM Academy in Lakeside Union School District are also closed.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

A wind advisory and red flag warning are in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for the county's mountains and valleys, according to the National Weather Service.
