Suspect Sought In Grand Theft Series At County Libraries
Bronze plaques have been stolen from libraries in 4S Ranch, Alpine, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove and Rancho San Diego.
SAN DIEGO, CA — A man is wanted in connection with a series of grand thefts at county libraries.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Oct. 17, the suspect removed and stole a bronze plaque attached to the exterior wall of the Imperial Beach Library at 810 Imperial Beach Blvd. in Imperial Beach, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The suspect placed the plaque, valued at approximately $4,500, in the bed of his truck and fled the scene.
Detectives said this incident may be related to similar thefts in which bronze plaques were stolen from libraries in 4S Ranch, Alpine, Lemon Grove and Rancho San Diego.

The suspect was described as a bald white man between 40 to 50 years old. He was wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, gray shorts and dark-colored sneakers, according to the sheriff's office. The suspect's vehicle was described as a 2005-2010 Chevrolet Silverado, single-cab truck with a steel front bumper.
Anyone with information on the identity or location of the suspect or his truck was asked to call the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation at 619-498-2400 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
