Thriller ‘Don't Worry Darling' Opens With $19.2 Million To Lead Box Office

“Don’t Worry Darling” opened with $19.2 million to lead all films at the North American box office this weekend, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The feminist thriller — which has been roiled by off-screen drama surrounding alleged friction between director Olivia Wilde and star Florence Pugh — beat out last week’s top-grossing film “The Woman King,” which took in $11.1 million in its second weekend in theaters, Comscore reported.

Third place went to a re-release of 2009’s “Avatar,” which took in $10 million Friday through Sunday — a figure helped by screenings at IMAX theaters, where tickets are more expensive.

Two horror films rounded out the top five, with “Barbarian” taking in $4.8 million in its third week and “Pearl” adding another $1.91 million in its second week.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “See How They Run” ($1.9 million), “Bullet Train” ($1.8 million), “DC League of Super-Pets” ($1.7 million), “Top Gun: Maverick” ($1.5 million) and “Minions: The Rise of Gru” ($1 million).
