- With trees crashing down all around San Diego, city crews were outside in the storm, working to remove fallen trees from roads and sidewalks. More than 50 fallen palm trees, eucalyptus trees and others were cleared, allowing for public entry and egress. The city is being proactive to prevent injuries to local residents. If you have concerns about a leaning tree, report it to Get It Done, or call 619-527-7500. (ABC 10 News)
- The City of San Diego created a new shelter for families with children experiencing homelessness. Located at a former Barrio Logan motel, the shelter will provide a stable location, meals, on-site supportive services and case management. The leased 42-room site can house 164 individuals on a temporary basis until they can be connected to permanent housing. (City News Service)
- County public health officials urge the City of San Diego to add more public restrooms and handwashing stations in areas where homeless camps are prominent. Enhanced sanitation and access to public bathrooms can help curtail a recent spike in hepatitis A cases and minimize the chance of more outbreaks. The city’s Performance and Analytics Department is now using a heat map of the city’s homeless camps to decide where restrooms should be placed. (Voice of San Diego)

- Plants are loving this weather: "San Diego plants and gardens are loving the weather this week! With rains making their way to Southern California, let the weather do the work and don't water your outdoor plants. Watch as the hillsides and mountains turn a beautiful green this season, and enjoy the benefits of a well watered garden without doing the work." (San Diego Botanic Garden via Facebook)
- Keep pets dry: "Pet Parent Weather Alert: Heavy rain and high winds are coming to San Diego County! Please ensure your animals are warm, dry and safe by keeping them inside and monitoring their outside time. Protect horses and livestock by providing a rain and windbreak, cover, warm bedding, abundant feed and fresh water. For more cold weather animal safety tips, visit sdhumane.org/coldweather." (San Diego Humane Society via Facebook)
- More than books: "Libraries are more than just books~! We've got concerts, camps, park passes and much more under our belt at San Diego Public Library. 🤩 For our list of services: mysdpl.org/services" (San Diego Central Library via Facebook)
- Stargazing: "Planning to go to Anza Borrego Park for Stargazing in March? Be sure to go during the weeks of the New Moon! Use this calendar to guide you. Blue colored nights are good for stars. Yellow colored nights have a bright moon." (San Diego County Library via Facebook)
- School kids create sock toys for our fur babies: "You're never too young to show compassion for animals! As part of their study about pets, teacher Andrea Boehme and her preschool students at La Jolla Country Day School created wand and cat nip sock toys for the cats in our care. These kind kids and their big hearts are already making a big difference for animals in need!" (San Diego Humane Society via Facebook)
