Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:
- Gale winds, rain and snow in the mountains, oh my! It’s being called a triple whammy. Gusty conditions will be evident around town, a wind advisory will be in place for inland areas, and high wind warnings will be up for the coast. So, brace yourself for the incoming storm that will bring inclement weather through next Sunday. Drive carefully and be safe! (NBC San Diego)
- A new initiative to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging capacity is under way at Navy and Marine Corps bases here in San Diego. Almost $2 million in grants from the California Energy Commission (CEC) will be used for the electrification program. A pilot program to study demand for chargers on base will put in 10 "level 2" EV chargers, as well as four "level 3 fast EV chargers." The military will plan future upgrades in order to eliminate the purchase of gas-powered vehicles by 2035. (KPBS)
- "Are you ready to join the Tomatomaniacs growing great-tasting tomatoes in their own backyards?" If so, come on down to the Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., rain or shine, for the Tomatomania tour. See a unique collection of heirloom tomatoes, as well as the classics. Four-inch plants will be available for purchase. The event is free, so mark your calendars and prepare your garden now for the tasty tomatoes to follow. (Patch)
