Andean Bear Cubs

  1. Waddling out of their private den, two 3-month-old Andean bear cubs at the San Diego Zoo are coming into the public-facing habitat for all to see. Their births are significant to conservation efforts as they are currently counted as Vulnerable on the international Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. Habitat loss and poaching have lessened the number of Andean bears across Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. (NBC San Diego)
  2. With temperatures rising around San Diego, rattlesnakes are appearing and posing a danger to pets and humans. Now is a good time to train your pet to obey and avoid the dangerous snakes. It is suggested that if your pet gets bit, keep it calm and hydrated, and give it some Benadryl. Then get it to a vet immediately. Antivenom treatment costs between $5,000 - $8,000. If a human gets bit, wrap the wound and get to a clinic or hospital right away for treatment. (NBC San Diego)
  3. Since the opening of the venue, people have come to view concerts on a ribbon of sidewalk lining the Rady Shell. However, a new ordinance will stop that from happening. Officials cite safety concerns of people blocking the area with lawn chairs, coolers, and tables. Sitting, climbing, or hanging out on the rocks near the sidewalk, will also be prohibited. Police will now direct people to move to an area of the park where concerts can still be heard, but not viewed. The ordinance will be enforced as of April 14, 2023. (ABC 10 News)
  4. Each decorated egg is a tiny masterpiece! These traditional Ukrainian decorated eggs, known as pysanky, are created for the Easter celebration. Using beeswax, creators make these beautiful and colorful designs. The eggs were viewed on Saturday at Balboa Park, courtesy of the House of Ukraine! (Cool San Diego Sights!)
