  1. It is disgusting. Sewage flows across the U.S.-Mexico border fouling our beaches. 🏖️You may be wondering why a solution has not been found to stop the flow. A solution was found, or so everyone thought. Several years ago, Congress passed a trade bill and money to solve the problem was given to the EPA, which handles clean water, but does not handle infrastructure. The EPA has been trying to transfer the money to the International Boundary and Water Commission, a federal agency that can build the infrastructure. However, U.S. Sen. Shelley Capito of West Virginia is holding back funds to build the infrastructure needed to fix the problem. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (KPBS)
  2. Community Housing Works has partnered with San Ysidro Health to build🏗️a 145-unit affordable apartment complex in National City. The complex will be urban village-style and called the Kimball Highland Apartments. “The Kimball Highland groundbreaking reinforces National City’s commitment to creating an age-friendly community by recognizing the unique needs that all walks of life may have,” said Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis. Rents will be $660 - $2,300 per month for qualified individuals earning between $27,330 and $63,770 per year. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Times of San Diego)
  3. It's everyone’s pet peeve, isn't it? You can easily buy batteries, 🔋but you cannot easily find a place to dispose of them safely. Many stores will not take used batteries back for disposal. Some residents just dump them into the trash — but that is not safe. Typical alkaline batteries include manganese, which is an essential nutrient, but high levels can cause adverse health impacts. The Environmental Protection Agency suggests sending alkaline batteries to a battery recycler. However, the State of California considers batteries hazardous waste that needs to be disposed of at a special facility. To help residents, San Diego County has made it possible to dispose of your unwanted batteries at select libraries. Find out where you can take yours. 4. Although the unemployment rate has dropped📉significantly here in San Diego, there are still hundreds of jobs that remain unfilled. There are entry-level jobs beginning at about $18 per hour plus benefits, truck driver jobs from $45 per hour, sales positions from $100,000 per year, and more.
