Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:

1. Don't forget to vote in the 2022 California Primary Election! You can vote in person at one of voting centers throughout San Diego. If you prefer, you can vote by mail, or fill out your ballot and drop it off at designated libraries around town. Find out where there is a polling place or ballot drop box near you. 2. The County of San Diego plans to build thousands of units of affordable housing on government land. “Our goal is ambitious,” Nathan Fletcher, Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, said. “We would like to master plan to build 10,000 units of affordable housing.” According to Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer: “The plan is simple. 3. Summer is almost here. It is vacation time. Schools are closing. Beaches are open, but lifeguards are in short supply nationwide. In the County and the City of San Diego lifeguard recruitment has dropped, resulting in a shortage at our local pools and beaches. With the right training, you can be a lifeguard or pool guard and start your career. Now, the City of San Diego offers Pool Guard 1 and Pool Guard 2 positions, paying from $15.33 to $17.59. 4. As the temperature rises, people will need to find ways to beat the heat. Excessive temperatures can result in heatstroke. That is why the County of San Diego has created free Cool Zones throughout the region. Information about Cool Zones can be found online or by calling 2-1-1. • San Diego Humane Society: A good Samaritan found a bird and noticed that it could not stay upright. The bird was transported to the Bahde Wildlife Center for treatment. After 45 days at the center, this beautiful peregrine falcon was returned to the wild. (San Diego Humane Society via Facebook)
