Here are five of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. Still waiting for your stimulus check? The Middle Class Tax Refund was scheduled for distribution Oct. 7 – Nov. 14. Distribution is delayed, but some San Diegans won't receive a check at all. Debit cards are currently being mailed out to those whose last names start with the letters N – V. Those who don’t earn enough to file a tax return do not qualify for a return. (CBS News 8)
  2. San Diego Humane Society Shelters have reached capacity. Now, 41 adoptable dogs will be relocated to the Oregon Humane Society. These dogs have already been offered for adoption in Oceanside, El Cajon, Escondido, and San Diego. The Oregon Society will see to it that these dogs are offered for adoption in the Pacific Northwest. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  3. Cold and flu season has begun, and medications are flying off the shelves. Local pharmacies can't keep enough medication in stock. Along with COVID-19, respiratory virus, and whooping cough, cold and flu season brings customers into local pharmacies seeking relief for themselves or family members. Pharmacies report there's also a supply issue which translates into fewer products on the shelves. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  4. On Monday, the City of San Diego will release 250 million gallons of drinking water from the Hodges Reservoir into the San Dieguito River. The purpose is to reduce the water elevation from 277 feet to 275 feet. The water release will continue for two days. This timeline could change due to weather patterns. (NBC San Diego)
  5. Each December, wreaths are placed on the tombstones of our fallen heroes. It's a way to honor those who served their country and now lay at rest. Eighty-seven percent of the graves at Miramar and Fort Rosecrans National Cemeteries will not receive a wreath for Christmas. Donations of $15 or more are needed to adorn the graves of our brothers and sisters here in San Diego. The deadline for donations is today. If you would like to donate, click here. (FOX 5 San Diego)
