  1. A new alert this week warns of the overdose risks of the animal sedative xylazine, which is now prevalent in San Diego. The drug known as “tranq” is a clear liquid which is cooked into a powder and added to heroin or fentanyl, or pressed into counterfeit Percocet, Vicodin, or Xanax. Mixed with opioids, alcohol, or sedatives, the drug causes drowsiness leading to unresponsiveness and respiratory depression, with slowed or stopped breathing. 2. At the city’s Environment Committee meeting this week, business groups voiced their view that the City's Climate Action Plan concentrated too much on cutting auto emissions. The committee then voted unanimously to approve a new tool to assist in its decision-making process on climate actions. The tool, which prioritizes the 190 different ways to eliminate greenhouse gasses, scores each action against its impacts on air quality, greenhouse gases, etc. (Patch)
  3. After several weeks of treatment and rehabilitation by the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife team, a coyote caught in an illegal jaw trap has been released back into the wild near where she was found. The SDHS would like the public to know that jaw traps are considered inhumane and the use of one can be considered a felony. If you suspect animal abuse or neglect, report it to San Diego Humane Society by calling 619-299-7012. (Times of San Diego)
