1 Dead In Mina Fire In Mendocino County
The large fire was mostly contained by Sunday, according to Cal Fire.
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA — The Mina Fire in Mendocino County was 95% contained as of Cal Fire's latest update on Sunday morning.
The fire was continuing to hold at 98 acres at 7 a.m. That was the size it grew to on Wednesday after doubling in size from Tuesday. It started on Monday in the 97500 Block of Mina Rd, northwest of the unincorporated area of Covelo.
Mop-up was continuing Sunday morning with seven engines, two water tenders, two hand crews and one dozer, Cal Fire reported Sunday. Fire suppression repair is underway, Cal Fire said.

One civilian death has been attributed to the fire so far, the family member of a man who told investigators that the fire started when a burn pile got out of control.
The family member, 66-year-old Dagmar Stankova, was reported missing after the fire started.
The remains of a woman were found on Tuesday morning in a nearby structure.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Division is working to identify the body.
Deputies said they believe it's Stankova, based on the investigation and circumstances of the fire. They said Stankova's next of kin is aware of this case and is assisting with this investigation. An autopsy is being scheduled and the final cause and manner of death won't be released until the autopsy and toxicology reports are available.
