100th Birthday Celebration Kicks Off For Legion Of Honor
"We are excited to welcome new and old friends to experience the Legion of Honor anew...(with activities) taking place on Free Saturdays."
SAN FRANCISCO — A cake cutting, a marching band and dance performances — all free — are scheduled to kick off the public celebration of San Francisco's Legion of Honor's 100th anniversary Saturday.
The Saturday event is the first of 12 months of free music and dance performances, lectures and movies in honor of the institution's opening on Nov. 11, 1924.
The Legion of Honor 100 festivities begin with the Centennial Weekend Celebration Saturday, Sunday and Monday featuring collaborations with a diverse group of local cultural organizations including Megan Lowe Dances, SMARTBOMB, Cake Picnic, Artivate, San Francisco Ballet.

"We are excited to welcome new and old friends to experience the Legion of Honor anew, with a mixture of curatorial lectures, music, dance, and other activations taking place on Free Saturdays throughout the year," Devin Malone, Director of Public Programs and Community Engagement, said in a statement.
"We look forward to amplifying ongoing relationships with local artists and organizations and launching new collaborations in a celebration of our collections and community," Malone said.
