📰 News we're reading

• More Than 125K Without Power in San Francisco During Massive Outage (patch.com) — San Francisco is grappling with a massive power outage that left more than 125,000 customers without electricity Saturday night, disrupting Muni service and traffic signals across the city. Officials say a fire at a PG&E substation may be linked, and Mayor Daniel Lurie is urging residents to stay off the roads while crews work to restore power and police manage key intersections.

• S.F. fire dept. investigating lieutenant who said ICE should ‘catch ‘em all!' (missionlocal.org) — San Francisco fire officials are investigating longtime lieutenant David Waters over social media comments supporting an ICE operation in West Oakland and calling for more deportations. Department leaders stress that his now-deleted posts don’t reflect SFFD values and say they’ll consider disciplinary action to uphold their commitment to serving all residents regardless of immigration status.

• SF to Have Rose Parade Float for the First Time in Decades, But There Are No Rainbow Flags in Sight (sfist.com) — San Francisco is returning to the Rose Parade on January 1 with a tourism-focused float showcasing the Golden Gate Bridge, Painted Ladies, a cable car, and Chinatown’s Dragon Gate. Local LGBTQ voices, however, say the design misses a key part of the city’s identity by omitting rainbow flags and Castro representation, despite SF Travel’s generally queer-friendly reputation.
