2 Honduran Men Sentenced To Federal Prison
Both were convicted of trafficking heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and cocaine base in San Francisco's Tenderloin district.
SAN FRANCISCO — Two men extradited from Honduras were sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking in the Bay Area, according to the office of the acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California.
Jorge Viera-Chirinos, 35, was sentenced to 40 months on March 5, while Elmer Matute, 32, received a 36-month sentence on Wednesday, according to a Friday press release.
Both were convicted of trafficking heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and cocaine base in San Francisco's Tenderloin district, prosecutors said.

Viera-Chirinos fled to Honduras in 2020 while out on bond but was extradited in 2024. Matute was arrested in Honduras and extradited the same year, officials said.
Senior U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer handed down both sentences.
