3 Bay Area Cities Named Among Top 10 Best Places To Raise A Family

In total, five California cities make up WalletHub's Top 10 Best Places to Raise a family.

SAN FRANCISCO — Personal finance company WalletHub has announced its list of the best cities to raise a family, and three Bay Area cities were named among the Top 10 nationwide— with one of those three cities taking the top spot.

According to the study, Fremont topped the list of the best places in the United States to raise a family, with San Jose coming in seventh place and San Francisco coming in 10th.

Elsewhere in California, Irvine landed in the third spot overall, while San Diego was sixth.

WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities based on 45 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics, such as the cost of housing, the quality of local school and health-care systems, and the opportunities for fun and recreation to come up with its list.

Fremont received a total score of 73.71 — placing 80th in the "family fun" category and 18th in the "affordability" category. The city ranked in first place overall in both the "education and child care" and the "socioeconomics" categories and second overall for "health and safety."

San Jose received a total score of 64.9. It placed 28th for "family fun" and 64th for "affordability." The city ranked in 11th overall in the "education and child care" category, 15th in the "socioeconomics" category and 16th overall for "health and safety."

San Francisco received a total score of 64.45 placing 11th in the "family fun" category and 66th for "affordability." The city ranked in 7th overall in the "education and child care" category, 40th in the "socioeconomics" category and 27th overall for "health and safety."
