AAA Launches Pilot Bike Patrol Program to Deliver Roadside Service

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: AAA is launching a new way to deliver roadside services for members in San Francisco. In conjunction with May being national Bike Safety Month, AAA will begin deploying a bicycle patrol in the area along the San Francisco waterfront in order to provide light duty service to customers, according to AAA officials.

The two new electric-assisted bicycles will be equipped with a custom toolbox and will offer light services such as flat tire assistance, jump starts and car lock-outs, AAA officials said. In the future, the bike patrol may offer more services, such as battery replacement.

The bike patrol will service the highly congested area on The Embarcadero from the Ferry Building to Ghirardelli Square and Fishermen's Wharf, according to AAA officials.

The bike patrols are part of a pilot program in the area, where there is a high percentage of light duty service calls. A recent analysis by AAA revealed that 60 percent of all emergency roadside service calls received in The Embarcadero corridor require only light service and can be assisted without a tow truck.

The bike patrol will be available to AAA members in the area seven days a week between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to AAA officials.
