Amazon Pharmacy Expands Same-Day Delivery of Medications to the San Francisco Bay Area
Bay Area residents can now receive prescriptions within hours, with transparent pricing and multiple savings options

Amazon Pharmacy today announced the launch of Same-Day Delivery in the Bay Area, providing faster, more convenient access to medications as well as cost-saving benefits through eligible manufacturer-sponsored discounts and clear, upfront pricing.
The expansion comes at a time when pharmacy closures have accelerated across the region. Compared to a decade ago, there are now 40% fewer pharmacies in San Francisco, leaving residents in the Bay Area with fewer choices and creating longer travel times for patients who rely on consistent access to medications. Amazon Pharmacy offers a full-service digital pharmacy experience that customers can access anytime, anywhere, allowing caregivers to conveniently manage medications for children, aging parents, or loved ones during the busy holiday season. The Amazon Pharmacy caregiver feature allows customers to securely invite trusted individuals who, once verified, can manage medications on behalf of their loved ones through their own Amazon Pharmacy accounts.
“Expanding Same-Day Delivery to Bay Area customers comes at a critical time when many residents are juggling holiday planning and shopping—the last thing anyone needs is a last-minute trip to the pharmacy,” said Kelvin Downes, director of operations for Amazon Pharmacy. “Our goal is to bring the speed, convenience, and transparency customers expect from Amazon to the pharmacy experience, ensuring they know exactly what their medications will cost and receive them reliably at home."

The two new Amazon Pharmacy sites enabling these fast deliveries are located within Amazon’s Same-Day facilities in Brisbane and Richmond, CA, each spanning more than 200,000 square feet. These state-of-the-art Amazon Pharmacy facilities feature advanced automation technology for rapid prescription filling, temperature-controlled storage for safe medication handling, and 24/7 access to licensed pharmacists for medication questions and support.
“Reliable access to medications isn’t just about convenience—it can improve treatment outcomes, support better medication adherence, and in some cases, save lives,” said Sandra Lee, Pharmacist-in-Charge at Amazon Pharmacy’s Brisbane location. “We’re proud to bring this level of service to patients across the Bay Area.”

This Bay Area launch is part of Amazon Pharmacy's broader plan to expand Same-Day Delivery to nearly half of U.S. customers by the end of 2025. The company recently announced Amazon Pharmacy Kiosks, which enable patients to pick up prescriptions immediately following appointments at One Medical offices—helping close gaps in care. The Kiosk pilot program begins this December in select locations in Los Angeles, with plans to expand nationally.
