NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect very dry conditions and warmer temperatures by the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

"Seasonable temperatures and breezy afternoons through midweek," NWS San Francisco forecasters wrote Monday. "Warmer temps 10-20 degrees above average by the end of the week with a moderate risk for heat-related illness among those susceptible to heat. Elevated risk for grass fire starts for inland areas this weekend as well with very dry conditions anticipated."

In other news, a 3-month-old baby died at an unlicensed day care center; about a dozen people were injured by a fallen tree at a college commencement ceremony; nine people were saved from a sinking sailboat; and two women were arrested after dozens of horses were found dead.

Also, new state data shows that California's TK-12 enrollment has continued its steady post-pandemic decline. At the same time, the number of poor and homeless students has been increasing.
