The Bay Area Has More Billionaires Than Any City On Earth
The number of billionaires in the Bay Area is up by 14 year over year, according to a recent ranking.
SAN FRANCISCO — The Bay Area is home to more billionaires than any other metro in the world, according to a recent ranking.
The region, which has 82 billionaires, came out ahead of New York City with 66 and Los Angeles with 45, according to the World’s Wealthiest Cities Report 2025, published by Henley & Partners in collaboration with New World Wealth. Hong Kong has the most billionaires of any non-U.S. nation, with 40, the ranking said.
While the Bay Area has more billionaires, New York City has more millionaires, with 384,500, compared to the Bay Area’s 342,400, according to the ranking.

“Notably, the Bay Area, which includes the city of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, in 2nd place with 342,400 resident millionaires, is now home to more billionaires (82) than the Big Apple and continues to thrive as the epicenter of technological wealth creation, enjoying exceptional millionaire growth of 98% over the past decade,” Henley & Partners said in a news release.
The number of billionaires in the Bay Area is up by 14 year over year, with the 2024 ranking showing 68 billionaires in the region.
