Update: Nob Hill Barricade Situation Over

Police had closed nearby streets, asking even residents to avoid the area.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Police have detained an armed burglary suspect this afternoon after he had barricaded himself inside an apartment for nearly five hours in San Francisco's Nob Hill neighborhood.

Around 2:30 p.m., police announced on Twitter that the suspect was in custody and that a police SWAT team remained at the scene, conducting a safety sweep of the area. The incident began around 9:20 a.m. when 911 dispatchers received a call from a person in the 900 block of Pacific Street saying a suspect had broken into their apartment, according to police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan.

Officers responded to the scene and found that the suspect was still inside the apartment. When officers ordered him out of the apartment, the suspect barricaded himself in a room, Gatpandan said.
