SAN FRANCISCO, CA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect unrelenting rain to persist in the San Francisco Bay Area as back-to-back storm systems move through the region this week.

"A strong cold front is moving through early Monday morning, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and a small chance for waterspouts," NWS San Francisco forecasters wrote Monday. "Scattered showers will gradually decrease through Monday before drier weather returns Tuesday. Next system brings more beneficial type rain late Wednesday through Thursday."

In other news, the body of a 7-year-old girl was recovered after she was swept into the ocean and her father died trying to save her. Also, one person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting in San Francisco; five people were displaced in an apartment complex fire; and 12 illegal massage parlors were shut down.

Plus, California schools raised graduation rates and academic achievement and improved college and career readiness last school year, according to the California School Dashboard. The dashboard, released by the California Department of Education, uses student data to measure academic performance, chronic absenteeism, college and career readiness, English learner progress and graduation and suspension rates.
