SAN FRANCISCO, CA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect hot, dry weather to continue across the Bay Area on Monday.

"Moderate heat risk continues through Monday for portions of North, East and South Bay counties and interior Monterey and San Benito counties," NWS San Francisco forecasters wrote Monday. "Elevated fire weather concerns persist through Monday given the warm and dry conditions combined with breezy afternoon and evening winds. Pattern change Tuesday, with cooler weather and coastal drizzle returning to the forecast."

In other news, Bay Area COVID-19 levels have surged just before school starts; a family of four and their dog was displaced by a house fire; one person was killed and four were injured in a chain-reaction crash; and video surveillance and license plate readers led to the arrest of a man in connection with a sexual assault.
