Drunk Bar Patron Punched Tavern's Window Because It Was Closing Time: Police

Officers en route to the bar pulled over a driver who smelled like alcohol, was acting drunk and had bloody knuckles, police said.

COLMA, CA — A San Francisco man broke the window of a bar in Colma because he was told the establishment was closing for the night, according to police.

Officers responded around 2 a.m. May 18 to Molloy’s Tavern in the 1600 block of Mission Road after receiving a report of a disturbance, but, on their way to the business, they stopped a vehicle driven by 50-year-old Thomas McGinnis that was coming from the direction of the bar, police said.

The officers had been told that a man breaking windows at the tavern had since left, according to police, who said McGinnis smelled like alcohol, was acting drunk and had bloody knuckles.

Once at the bar, the officers saw the window on the front door was completely shattered and an employee told them McGinnis punched the window, causing about $1,000 in damages, after he was informed it was closing time, police said.

McGinnis was arrested, charged with felony vandalism and driving under the influence, and booked into the county jail, according to police.
