SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Fire officials say they rescued a dog that fell off an oceanside cliff in San Francisco on Tuesday.

The dog had been playing at Fort Funston, which has steep bluffs that can drop up to 200 feet to the beach below. At some point, it slipped on some vegetation and fell over the cliff, officials with the San Francisco Fire Department said.

The canine spent more than 20 minutes on a ledge about 40 feet below the top of the cliff.

A rescue team from the San Francisco Fire Department responded, and with the help of a police drone operator who happened to be at the scene, found where the dog had sought temporary shelter.

At least one person rappelled down the cliff to rescue the dog, which the San Francisco Police Department said suffered no injuries. The white and brown dog has since been reunited with its owner, authorities said.
