Honduran Man Sentenced To Prison For Drug Distribution, Illegal Reentry

A Honduran man was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison for drug distribution and illegal reentry into the United States, federal prosecutors announced.
Erlan Eduardo Cruz-Acosta, 41, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick to 36 months in prison for distributing methamphetamine, possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute, and illegally reentering the U.S. after removal.
Cruz-Acosta pleaded guilty in November 2024 to all three charges, a press release issued Thursday noted.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, he was found in San Francisco in June 2021 after having been deported multiple times since 2008.
Prosecutors said Cruz-Acosta distributed 7.8 grams of methamphetamine in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood in November 2023. He also reportedly possessed nearly 30 grams of fentanyl, along with quantities of cocaine, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and a machete.

Cruz-Acosta's criminal history includes a 2006 conviction in Virginia for taking indecent liberties with a child, multiple illegal reentries, and previous drug-related offenses, prosecutors said.
In addition to prison, Judge Orrick ordered Cruz-Acosta to serve three years of supervised release and forfeit $358 in cash, a digital scale, a machete, and its sheath. He was remanded into custody immediately following sentencing.
