ILG Legal wins pro bono case on behalf of nonprofit Guild Law School
The employment law firm ILG Legal Office, PC., has secured a major victory for its client, The Guild Law School Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO, California – The employment law firm ILG Legal Office, PC., has secured a major victory for its client, The Guild Law School Inc., by successfully arguing that a lawsuit filed against the nonprofit institution had exceeded the statute of limitations.
Attorney Stephen Noel Ilg, who represented The Guild Law School pro bono, won the case on a motion for summary judgment. The court agreed with Ilg that the lawsuit, initiated by a former employee alleging wrongful termination, had been filed beyond the legally permitted timeframe.
The case was complex because it involved emergency COVID-19 tolling measures that extended the typical deadline for wrongful termination lawsuits. Under California law, the statute of limitations for these types of lawsuits is normally three years, but it was extended for approximately half a year for certain types of cases due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, by meticulously analyzing the timeline and applicable tolling rules, ILG Legal successfully demonstrated that the plaintiff’s claims were filed three days after the appropriate deadline and could not proceed. On March 10, 2025, the Court entered Judgment for Defendant on all claims.

“Many attorneys before us had declined to take on this case because they did not think it could be won on a motion for summary judgment,” Ilg said. “This decisive ruling highlights ILG Legal’s expertise in employment law and procedural litigation, and our dedication to providing exceptional legal representation, including in our pro bono work.”
Ilg is the owner of ILG Legal Office, PC, and an award-winning employment lawyer and consumer attorney. The firm represents both plaintiffs and defendants and has won class certification in state and federal court across various industries. In 2022, Ilg was named one of the Top Labor and Employment Attorneys in California by the Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal, the largest legal newspaper in the state.
