SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A 58-year-old man has been charged in connection with the torturing and killing of an elderly man in San Francisco's Mission District more than 14 years ago, prosecutors said.

It's unclear why it took more than a decade to file charges against Thomas, and details about the crime were scarce. Authorities did not say what the relationship between Thomas or the victim was.

Records show Thomas was taken into custody Sunday afternoon on suspicion of murder, torture and inflicting an injury elderly person likely to cause great bodily harm.
