The killer tried to clean the blood splattered across the room with bleach, according to the district attorney's office.

Police responded about 4:30 p.m. to a call about an unresponsive person in a hotel room and smelled a strong odor of bleach coming from the room, which had been ransacked, prosecutors said.

Officers found the victim's body on the bathroom floor with half of the victim's legs in the shower.

The victim had two large wounds in his neck that severed major arteries, veins, the trachea and the victim's spine, prosecutors said.

Sakhno was found to have the victim's phone when he was taken into custody on Oct. 31 following an unrelated incident, according to the district attorney's office.

Although charges have been filed, the case remains an active investigation, prosecutors said. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or text TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
