Man Who Robbed Woman At Gunpoint In Front Of Her Kids Convicted: SF Prosecutors

"Don't make me shoot you in front of the kids," the man told a woman while robbing her, according to prosecutors.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man has been found guilty of robbing a mother at gunpoint in front of her kids at her home in San Francisco more than two years ago, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Darryl Robinson, also known as Patrick Rushing, was convicted of first-degree robbery, child endangerment, criminal threats, possessing a firearm following a previous violent conviction, being a felon in possession of a firearm and assault with a semi-automatic gun following a recent trial, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors say a woman was in her garage, trying to get her children into the car, on March 24, 2023, when Robinson arrived wearing a mask.

There, Robinson pointed a loaded gun at the woman and asked for her wallet, according to authorities.

When the woman responded that she didn't have her wallet, Robinson said, "Don't make me shoot you in front of your kids," prosecutors said.

Robinson managed to take the woman's cell phone, jewelry and a backpack before leaving the garage, prosecutors said. Officers used the stolen cellphone to track Robinson down 40 minutes later in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood, authorities said.

Robinson had been previously convicted of murder and attempted murder, and was on parole at the time of the robbery, prosecutors said.

In a statement on Thursday, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins thanked jurors for their service in the trial and for a "swift verdict."

"Conduct of this nature is extremely dangerous and traumatizing and has lasting negative impacts on victims and communities," Jenkins said, adding that her office will now work to "ensure that the Court understands the danger that Mr. Robinson poses to the public and that the appropriate sentence is imposed."

It's unclear exactly how many years in prison Robinson faces as a result of the conviction. He will still need to appear for a bench trial on Nov. 14, where a judge will take into account the aggravating factors in the case and Robinson's prior convictions.

“The terrifying ordeal that the victim endured was nothing short of a living nightmare," Assistant District Attorney Yuri Chornobil said in a statement Thursday. “Thanks to the hard work of the San Francisco Police Department and the Jury that carefully deliberated the facts and the law, Mr. Robinson will finally be held accountable for his heartless and heinous actions.”
