Unseasonably Cool Weather On the Menu For Memorial Day Weekend BBQs

Summerlike temps may give way to a cooler trend this holiday weekend, but the forecast is far from gloomy. Here's what to expect.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Bay Area will soak up the sunshine this week, and summerlike temperatures will stick around for at least a couple more days, but a cooloff is in the forecast heading into Memorial Day weekend.

Places like San Jose, Concord and Napa were poised to climb into the mid-80s by Tuesday afternoon, while most areas away from the coast should land comfortably into the 70s. Forecasters see another pleasant pattern playing out Wednesday before temps start to taper off Thursday and on into the holiday weekend.

Even as temps dip below their seasonal normals, early forecasts from the National Weather Service call for mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday, with little threat of rain, making for a pleasant kickoff to the unofficial start of summer.

"Temperatures will cool down by the late week as a stronger upper-level trough moves inland Friday/Saturday," NWS Bay Area wrote Monday. "This system looks fairly dry with [model] guidance indicating very low chances of accumulating precipitation with it."

Updated climate outlooks favor near-normal temps to close out the month, with a good shot at dry weather lingering into at least the first few days of June. More details on the holiday weekend will be available as the forecast firms up in the coming days.
