Pedestrian Struck By Light Rail Vehicle in Dogpatch Neighborhood: UPDATE

San Francisco Police officials say a 21-year-old San Francisco resident was hit while crossing the street after exiting a different train.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- A 21-year-old San Francisco man suffered a traumatic brain injury but is expected to survive after being hit by a San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail vehicle Wednesday night in the city's Dogpatch neighborhood.

The collision occurred at 8:19 p.m. at Third and Mariposa streets. The victim got off one train and walked behind it to cross the street when an oncoming train hit him, Officer Albie Esparza said.

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.

The incident was first reported at 8:21 p.m., a dispatcher said. Capt. Vaswani, commanding officer of the Bay View Police Station, announced via Twitter around 10 p.m. that the incident occurred in the vicinity of Third and Mariposa Streets.

Vaswani said delays through the area could be expected. Further details were not immediately available.
