Student Wounded In Shooting At SF High School: Police
The student is expected to survive, according to police.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A student was hospitalized after being shot at a high school in San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Officers responded just after 12:10 p.m. to a school in the 400 block of Mansell Street after someone reported a shooting, the San Francisco Police Department said. Phillip and Sala Burton Academic School is located in that area.
It's unclear what led up to the shooting, but police say the suspect shot the student at least once and then left the area. The student, a boy, was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Supervisor Jackie Fielder, who represents the ninth district, where the high school is located, said the boy had been shot in the leg and that he is in stable condition.
"Every child deserves to feel safe at school and in their communities," Fielder said in a statement on social media Tuesday afternoon. "We can never accept senseless violence that disrupts any student's well being and pursuit of education."

The suspect, who authorities identified as a juvenile male, was later located in the 1400 block of Shafter Avenue and taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Police did not say what the suspect was booked on suspicion of or what charges they may face. It's also unclear whether the suspect is also a student at the high school.
Officers seized a gun during the arrest, but police did not say whether it was the gun used in the shooting.
