Sutter Health’s CPMC Teams Up with NEMS PACE for Lung Cancer Awareness

Education and screening event held for at-risk population during Lung Cancer Awareness Month

This Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Sutter Health's California Pacific Medical Center's lung nodule program team joined forces with NEMS PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) to shine a light on a critical health disparity: lung cancer’s outsized impact on Asian populations.

The education event in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood highlighted the importance of early detection and prevention, especially in communities where lung cancer rates are disproportionately high. Asian American women, in particular, have been found to experience lung cancer at higher rates than their counterparts in other racial groups. Through collaborative education and outreach, medical oncologist Dr. Lin Wang and nurse navigator Deborah Bishop emphasized the value of screenings and care options available at CPMC.
