SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A person died after being struck by a BART train on the tracks at the Civic Center station in San Francisco on Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for the transit agency said.

The collision was reported around 8:45 a.m. involving someone who went onto the tracks as a train approached and was struck, BART spokesperson Jim Allison said.

The Civic Center station closed for about an hour while crews responded to the collision. It reopened around 9:45 a.m. but trains were still using a single track to travel between the Embarcadero and 24th Street Mission stations in both directions until about 10:30 a.m. to get around the emergency response, Allison said.
