Unprovoked Grocery Store Attack Verdict
"The victim of a completely unprovoked attack continued to be victimized by the defendant's threatening conduct."
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man was convicted of various felonies for attacking someone unprovoked at a grocery store in San Francisco in 2022, according to prosecutors.
In a statement Monday, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said that Najee Barrow, 25, was found guilty of one count of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, one count of possessing a firearm by a person who has been convicted of a felony, one count of possessing a firearm within 10 years of a misdemeanor, and one count of firearm possession by an individual who has been adjudged a ward of the juvenile court.
Prosecutors said Barrow was also convicted of one count of assault with the intent of committing an act of violence, one count of drawing a firearm in a threatening manner, and one count of resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer.

Evidence and testimonies during his trial revealed that on Nov. 20, 2022, a male was at a grocery store on Holloway and Brighton avenues to buy snacks. While he was standing by the cash register, Barrow entered the store and, without provocation, chased him, cornering him in an aisle and assaulting him with punches and kicks.
A week later, Barrow reportedly went to the victim's workplace with a firearm, trying to find the victim. On Nov. 30, 2022, officers detained Barrow, and they found a Glock firearm in his backpack.

"I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. "The jury's verdict holds Mr. Barrow accountable and sends a message that random unprovoked violence in our community will not be tolerated and perpetrators will face consequences."
"The victim of a completely unprovoked attack continued to be victimized by the defendant's threatening conduct even after the initial incident," said Assistant District Attorney Samantha Adhikari. "I hope this verdict provides him with some justice. I am grateful to the jury for holding the defendant accountable for his violent conduct."
Barrow, who is currently in custody, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 30 for his crimes.
