SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Waymo's robotaxis have begun operating along Bay Area freeways and two major airports, according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, the same day Waymo began offering some customers the opportunity to drive along Highway 101 and Interstate 280 in the autonomous vehicle, according to the report.

The vehicles will now connect riders to the San Jose Airport and San Francisco International Airport, according to the report.

“We’ve had our eyes on freeways, as I know many of you have had as well, for quite a while,” Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov told reporters during a virtual presentation, according to the Chronicle

Waymo came under fire in a San Francisco neighborhood earlier this year after one of its vehicles struck and killed a beloved bodega cat.

San Francisco City Supervisor Jackie Fielder said after the incident that she planned to introduce legislation that would allow voters to decide whether to allow autonomous vehicles to operate locally.
