Irene and Martin Garcia opened their home to dozens of strangers, even ordering pizza as people waited out the chaos. Police have arrested a teen suspect, and the district attorney is seeking to try him as an adult.

2. Tombstone memorial honors unhoused as Santa Clara County deaths fall (ktvu.com) — San Jose officials say expanded shelter and outreach helped cut deaths among unhoused residents this year, even as advocates prepare a tombstone memorial to honor every life lost in Santa Clara County. The City Council just approved $14 million to sustain homelessness programs, while the annual Tombstone Project opens Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church for residents who want to pay their respects.

3. Passenger killed in San Jose hit-and-run, driver arrested (mercurynews.com) — A man died Saturday evening after exiting a moving car on McCoy Avenue in West San Jose, and the driver was later arrested in Sunnyvale on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. This was San Jose’s 38th traffic death this year, down from 47 at this time in 2024. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective White by phone or email.

4. Sam Seibert, 106, helped preserve fire service history (iaff.org) — San Jose is remembering retired fire captain Sam Seibert, who served the city’s fire department for 30 years and became a driving force behind the San Jose Fire Museum. The 106-year-old Navy veteran was its largest individual donor and a tireless collector of historic equipment and memorabilia, helping preserve the department’s story for future generations.

5. Single-family residence in San Jose sells for $2.2 million (mercurynews.com) — A single-story home on the 6800 block of Lenwood Way in San Jose sold last month for $2.22 million, or about $1,099 per square foot. The three-bedroom, two-bath house sits on a roomy 0.3-acre lot, and nearby properties on Lenwood Way and Glenview Drive have also recently sold above $2.3 million, underscoring the neighborhood’s high prices.
